Janik Pokorny: Sound Engineer

CONTAINER Ensemble sets its musical basis on these open questions and explore the extended performance, where the instrumental practice goes far beyond the expertise on a particular instrument (as we have been taught in the music academia). Believing as we do in the creative process as a collaboration path, we asked the artists Svetlana Maraš and Fran MM Cabeza de Vaca to join us in this exciting journey. New and old instruments used as a collective sound sculpture. The concert-concept melts with some other artistic manifestations such as expositions or aural experiences, where the audience itself is part of the space where the presentation takes place – avoiding responsorial or antiphonal ways of listening.

One room; three spaces; four performers.

This is the initial set for our project FOUR. Taking the masterpiece Black Horizon by Marko Ciciliani as a starting point, where 4 performers manipulate 2 table-top e-guitars, CONTAINER Ensemble develops a whole stage concept where the main premise is to challenge the idea of the interaction between performer and instrument. Nowadays electronic music and art is almost a mainstream in every artistic area. Once this is settled, what is then a musical instrument? It is quite clear that a computer can be as much of an instrument as a violin or a guitar. Hence, we as music performers have the urge to define what does it mean to play an instrument. The virtuosity is not based on the same roots as some years ago and, of course, the development of new musical instruments has a lot to do with it.
